USING NATURE TO NURTURE

Let’s Introduce Ourselves

It is important to us that we first, respectfully, acknowledge that we are located on the traditional land of the Anishinaabe people, and the traditional territory of Fort William First Nation, signatory to the Robinson Superior Treaty of 1850.

Our mission is to grow our sense of community and create a space where children are put first, and quality care is of the utmost importance. We strive to provide children with important life skills and opportunities to ensure that they can become the best versions of themselves. We believe providing children with a safe, happy and enriching environment will ensure that they obtain the proper skills not just for school, but also fosters growth in other areas of their self.

We value the individuality of each child and family and will adapt to meet their needs. In a warm and caring atmosphere, we meet the children where they are in their development to ensure we are fostering each child’s physical, emotional, social, and creative development with a meaningful approach. Our curriculum is play-based and augmented with daily activities, outdoor experiences, intimate relationships, and trusting that each child is competent and capable. Our emphasis is on the process, rather than the outcome, with a plethora of encouragement to practice curiosity, exploration, and enquiry. We encourage each child to take risks and try new ideas to build confidence and to learn at a pace that is most comfortable for them.

We offer a unique spotlight on our community as we partner with all things Thunder Bay to create a local-focused facility that will celebrate our city’s businesses and provide farm-to-table dining for our children with food from local producers. Nutrition is a major component of our learning at Nature’s Nest Early Learning Centre. We grow and harvest our own food, as well as put emphasis on providing well-balanced meals that meet and exceed the Canada Food Guide expectations; as well preparing many meals from scratch together.

Our educator teams practice daily observation, professional reflection, life-long learning, and are supported to provide safe, meaningful, high-quality care. Professional development is essential to our educator team, and we are committed to following the Ministry of Education standard and annual evaluation guidelines. Our mission is to be the best that we can be, in our field.

Our program runs year round. It is essential to Nature’s Nest Early Learning Centre that we offer our students experiential learning, and can best be accomplished by exposure to all four seasons. Learning through doing and then reflecting, allows so much opportunity to become critical thinkers, and knowledge keepers.
